Experience New Zealand's Top Fishing Regions
The Westland region of the South Island holds mainly "wily" brown trout. These are generally larger with trophy trout of 2-5 kg (4-10lb) regarded as being the norm. Fishing Canterbury, MacKenzie Country and Nelson are regions offering more rainbow trout. All these fishing regions may be visited while on your New Zealand fishing vacation.
Fishing Season
Trout fishing is on offer from October to April as the dedicated summer season, with the warmest period being from November to February. Winter fishing is available from June.
Tackling fast flowing rivers to slow flowing spring creeks, or on a lake edge spotting that elusive cruising trout will test all the skills you have - or wished you had. You will experience a wide variety of trout fishing waters and conditions. Each with its own demands of how to present the fly, the take, the strike. Finally to catch and release - all goes to make for total satisfaction.
